The award was presented to Messi by Alfredo Di Stefano and Argentina coach Diego Maradona, and he was delighted to receive it from two of his idols.
"I'm prouder than ever to be beside Maradona and Di Stefano and very happy with what they have given me," Messi gushed to Marca. Eduardo Inda, the director of Marca, revealed that "Messi won like Barcelona win their games by a landslide."
Xavi, Diego Forlan and Andres Iniesta were among the other nominees.
